The Severstal Columbus melt shop - consisting of a single DC electric arc furnace and ladle furnace - feeds a single-strand, thin-slab caster that is coupled to a 6-stand hot strip mill via a tunnel furnace. Plant layout has been designed to accommodate an additional arc furnace, ladle furnace, tank degasser, continuous caster and tunnel furnace that feed into the hot strip mill, as well as to a second pickle line.
